Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan with Kim Labrosse
Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan with Kim Labrosse
Hello and welcome back to Sudbury Stories, your feel good news of Sudbury! David Kurt is on the mic today with Kim Labrosse, the head coach of the Sudbury Spartans.
Snow melting and spring aromas in the air usually invite football season! However, the 2020 summer football leagues have been suspended due to COVID and these unprecedented times. I'm sure a lot of us are having trouble picturing their summers without football and all of the energizing community gatherings that walk hand in hand with the sport.
Kim chats about his football passion and journey, "something about football hit.' He was 16 when he first started playing for the Spartans! He is now the head coach and has been for the past 6 years! He opens up about his coaching experiences, driving winning culture, the importance of 'team' and the amount of prep that goes on behind the scenes. He also shares his plans to expand the Spartan community and widen opportunities for Sudbury's youth by adding a third varsity team for grade 11 and 12 students. Giving back to our community is part of being a Sudbury Spartan.
After looking at the rosters, David wonders what brings guys out year after year. Kim sums it up with "The game of football is like a bug, once you get started...it's hard to get over it." That's why you see guys coming back year after year. Retiring is troubling for a lot of them! The Sudbury Spartans is not only community, it's family. Coach Kim encourages Sudbury to come out and play - you're never too old. If you'e never played before, and are athletic...they've got coaches and can make you into football players!
Though Sudbury's fields are empty, we hope to rekindle the good ol' football itch in today's episode! So tune in! We can't wait to see what 2021 brings!
